SECULAR FRANCISCAN ORDER

AIMS:

To observe the Gospel of Our Lord, Jesus Christ in the manner of, and following the example of, St. Francis of Assisi who made Christ the centre of his life.

 

JOINING THE S.F.O:

Before becoming a full member a period of formation and religious instruction taking approximately a year is entered into. This is usually given by the formation director on one night per month.

 

MEMBERSHIP OBLIGATIONS:

Daily: To try and attend daily Holy Mass, read the S.F.O. office, and read the Gospel of the day.

Monthly: First Thursday – Holy Mass in the church for all members. Second Tuesday – Holy Mass for all members, with refreshments afterwards.

 

EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

Lent:

Regional Lenten Retreat

 

June:

S.F.O. coffee morning (fund-raiser)

St. Anthony’s Feast Day coffee morning.

Franciscan S.F.O. pilgrimage to Knock.

 

July:

Barbeque in the friary garden with friars.

 

August:

Our Lady’s Island pilgrimage attended by individual members.

S.F.O. summer outing – a bus excursion to a place of interest, including an evening meal.

 

September:

Annual Retreat over four morning Masses for S.F.O. members at the normal ten o’clock Holy Mass, with refreshments afterwards on the final day.

 

October:

National Assembly in Knock for all delegates.

Regional Retreat in Kilkenny open to all members, with a social afterwards.

 

December/January:

Christmas/ New Year dinner for friars and S.F.O. members. Inaugurated in 2020.
